Helium is used as a tracer because it penetrates small leaks rapidly. Helium has also the property of being non-toxic, chemically inert and present in the atmosphere only in minute quantities (5 ppm). Typically, a helium leak detector will be used to measure leaks in the range of 10−5 to 10−10 atm cc/sec.
We provide leak testing services in shop or on-site for a wide range of customer needs. We can quickly locate even the smallest leaks in any pressure system, vacuum system or hermetic system.
In Vacuum testing, your part is evacuated with a separate pumping system for larger volumes, or within the detector itself for smaller volumes. To locate a leak, helium is administered to the suspected leak sites of your part using a spray probe with an adjustable flow.
In Pressure Testing, your part is pressurized with helium or a mixture of helium and air. To locate a leak, the potential leak sites of your part are scanned using a Sniffer Probe connected to the inlet of the leak detector.
